New Year's Eve?!

Whoa, it's the last day of 2013. Where has the time gone? I'm serious. Where?!

I thought I would write down some of the better moments from this past year month-by-month

January:
I got my first internship! Well, I heard back from a museum that I got one for the summer. Then I went ice skating in pretty much my own ice rink in DC. Yes, I am an important person.

February:
I got to visit my friends at another college and introduce them to my college friends. It was a fun weekend of friend group merger. I even got to be in my first Harlem Shake video! My younger sister and I also made a stop motion video to the song Running For Cover by Ivan and Alyosha. We had so much fun making it.

March:
Not too much happened in March...well not too many good things happened in March. It was one of the less fun months.

April:
Baseball! I watched Bryce Harper hit a homerun at his first up-to-bat. It was magical. Also in April I went to my first big girl wedding. I've been to weddings before but this time I got to bring a date, drink alcohol, and really pay attention to what happens at a wedding. I also got to pretend I was part of the Performing Arts Club at school and go to one of the best parties I've ever been to. Along with all those fun things I got to go to my school's Multicultural Fair and the annual Herbs McGerbs party all in one day! Needless to say, April was a good month.

May:
I got to attend my first baseball game of the season and junior year came to a close. I took a trip up to Baltimore to see the incredible American Visionary Art Museum with a few people I'd be working with during my internship. It might be one of the most beautiful buildings I have ever seen. My older sister graduated and we coined the term "framily".

June:
In June one of my best friends had her 21st birthday and I got to experience the spectacle of Fairfax nightlife. I also had to give a presentation to the Arts Council of Fredericksburg which was terrifying but was ok because everyone said I did fine. I also got my wisdom teeth taken out! Pain. Here is a picture.

July:
After experiencing Fairfax nightlife I got to really experience DC nightlife! Wowy. I had probably one of the best nights of my life celebrating another friend's 21st birthday and galavanting around with my roommate. The absolute highlight of the month was my internship that took place over two weeks of the month. I ran an art camp for kids ages 8-12 and 13-17. They were the sweetest kids and so very creative. We got to street paint, construct origami, make art out of nature, and spray paint hand-made stencils. It was stressful but so very cool. At the end of the month my younger sister, dad, and I climbed a mountain as a day trip and saw some incredible views.

August:
During the month of August I mainly babysat and prepared for my last full year of college. Best part of the month: meeting Denard Span. I was the first one to talk to him and as I stood next to him to get a picture he asked if I was nervous and I just blurted out that I was hungover. True story. Worst part of the month: saying goodbye to a former roommate who was studying abroad.

September:
I studied a lot, watched a lot of baseball, and reunited with many friends. I saw The Lord of the Rings the Fellowship of the Ring at Wolf Trap with a live band and then later saw even more bands at Free Fest. My roommate and I waited two hours in the pouring rain to see my favorite band play from the pit. That was amazing. Finally, I got to attend my first ever Oktoberfest downtown! It was awesome. My friend from home came down to drink some beers with my roommate and college friends and we even got steins. I named mine Gertrude.

October:
While I got to attend my first Oktoberfest in September, I got to really attend a homecoming tailgate in October! My roommate and I got up early to make breakfast and then headed over to a friend's house for games and then to the tailgate for food and even more games. I can't wait to attend next year as a...gulp...alumni. Halloween was also awesome. I was Lana del Rey and Indiana Fogg. No one really could guess either.

November:
Schoolwork began to get really tough in November so I spent way less time having fun around the downtown area and a lot more fun in the library. I did manage to go to Richmond twice in November. The first time was to see my favorite live band Dr Dog at the National and the second time was to run an 8k with my family. I have now seen Dr Dog 4 times in concert for the 4 years I've been at college. I think that has become my favorite personal tradition.

December:
The finals were upon us and so was my 22nd birthday. Because it was finals I didn't do anything that crazy but I did have a really good night with friends from school. When I got back I went out with my sister and other home friends and had another good night. I have great friends in my life! Christmas came around and it was yet another lovely day filled with gifts, song, and a drunk grandpa.

That about brings us to the end of this eventful year. It was a crazy one and I predict 2014 will be even crazier. I hope all of my three viewers also had a great year!

Until 2014,

Caroline

up to now

As an art history major I have to have knowledge of the history of art (duh doy). The classes I had to take started off with a general overview of art from prehistory to contemporary art. Afterwards the classes get into more specific topics and time periods. If you know anything about college classes or have half a brain this is pretty obvious. This past semester I actually finished taking all of the classes to fulfill the degree. This upcoming semester I'm taking two more classes but they are just kind of for fun. I think it says a lot that I want to take extra classes that aren't required for fun. I have absolutely loved my major and I don't think I would have enjoyed any other major as much. When I first got to college I was really interested in historic preservation, which my college is known for. I took the 100 level class and while it was interesting and I enjoyed it I thought the art history survey class was a million times more interesting and I looked forward to going to class every Tuesday and Thursday. It also helps my professor was amazing. I had her again when I took Pre-Colombian art and it was probably my favorite class I've ever taken. I'm now dying to go to Machu Picchu. Does anyone want to go with me?

Anywho, here is a list of all the classes I've taken:

1. Part 1 of the History of Western Art
2. Part 2 of the History of Western Art (these two were the survey classes)
3. Methods of Art History
4. Egyptian and Near Eastern Art and Architecture
5. Romanesque and Gothic Art and Architecture
6. Early Italian Renaissance
7. Northern Baroque
8. Post Impressionism to Abstract Expressionism
9. Modern Architecture
10. Contemporary Architecture after 1960
11. History of Print Making
12. Buddhist Art
13. Pre-Colombian Art
14. Museum Studies
15. Museum Studies Lab
16. And then I had a summer internship at a museum. More on that later.

This upcoming semester I'm taking ancient Roman art and an Asian art class. I love non-western art classes. As I said before I'm trying to get my parents to take me to Mexico, Central America, and South America to see the Pre-Colombian ruins. Ugh, they are some of the most impressive structures built by man. I'm also really wanting to travel around India to see some of the Buddhist art around the country. Wouldn't that be the most amazing trip?? I think it's something I'd like to do on my own. That would be so cheesy to say I'd have an Eat, Pray, Love-esque trip but WHATEVER I want to do that. I could definitely go to Italy too. I'd probably just try to impersonate my best Julia Roberts' toothy laugh the whole time while eating an enormous amount of pizza and pasta. It'd be a great time and I'd look like a crazy person.

I just want to travel around the world to see all the art I've learned about in person. Is there some way to do this for free? I'm up to suggestions ;)

Until tomorrow,

Caroline

the future

So as I had said before I am graduating this spring. I'm going to be totally honest with you, I am afraid of a lot of things. These include frogs, speaking in front of large groups of people, long toe nails, and starting new television shows. Although I am scared of these things and more, above all else I am afraid of graduating. I am afraid of life after college and living on my own. I'm sure I'm not the only person who is terrified of living without my friends close by and a meal plan. My roommates are also nervous about being on our own but it keeps me up at night. It also doesn't help that my older sister graduated with a job lined up already and bought a car only a few weeks later. Am I going to be able to do that? Well, I don't know. Does anyone ever know?

I had a pretty bad day yesterday. From today on there will be a post a day!

Until tomorrow,

Caroline

a little about me

If I am gonna keep this up I gotta let my three future viewers know a little more about myself.

I am 22-year-old girl and a second-semester senior in college.
My family consists of a dad, mom, older brother, older sister, and younger sister.
I am majoring in art history and work in the art galleries on campus.
I have a strange mix of interests ranging from makeup to Lord of the Rings to baseball.
Also, music, I love music. And Spoitfy. I love Spotify.

Not too long ago my dad played a game at his office Christmas party where they had to say their current top three likes and dislikes. There might have been something else they had to do but I don't remember now. Here are mine:

Likes
1. Frenchie Butt
2. Haim the band
3. Chukka boots (always and forever)

Dislikes
1. Being sick (no one ever really likes this, right?)
2. Unseasonal weather in the winter
3. Clothing that doesn't fit (no one ever really likes this either)

I hope you three now have a better understanding of me. Maybe I could do a weekly current likes and dislikes. Perhaps it could be a Friday thing.

Until next time,

Caroline

the last semester...

I decided to start this blog as a sort of early New Year's resolution. I want to document my last semester of college and hopefully get some sort of experience writing and blog posting/making. I got this idea from a project my roommate and I wanted to do. We love YouTube vlog (video blog) channels and we wanted to start one that would be dedicated to our spring semester of senior year. Now, I love my roommate a lot; she is my absolute favorite person in the whole world and I know her heart is in the right place. That being said, unfortunately I don't think she would keep up with the project. So I am taking matters into my own hands!

From now until May (or maybe I'll keep this up afterwards, who knows!) I will post daily about school, music I like, my job search, relationships, and pretty much anything that goes on in my life. I hope by starting this blog I can use this as a sort of digital scrapbook. I expect to only have a few readers if I tell my mom and sister about this so it is really meant for me.

Let's see how it goes!

Until tomorrow,

Caroline
