I thought I would write down some of the better moments from this past year month-by-month
January:
I got my first internship! Well, I heard back from a museum that I got one for the summer. Then I went ice skating in pretty much my own ice rink in DC. Yes, I am an important person.
February:
I got to visit my friends at another college and introduce them to my college friends. It was a fun weekend of friend group merger. I even got to be in my first Harlem Shake video! My younger sister and I also made a stop motion video to the song Running For Cover by Ivan and Alyosha. We had so much fun making it.
March:
Not too much happened in March...well not too many good things happened in March. It was one of the less fun months.
April:
Baseball! I watched Bryce Harper hit a homerun at his first up-to-bat. It was magical. Also in April I went to my first big girl wedding. I've been to weddings before but this time I got to bring a date, drink alcohol, and really pay attention to what happens at a wedding. I also got to pretend I was part of the Performing Arts Club at school and go to one of the best parties I've ever been to. Along with all those fun things I got to go to my school's Multicultural Fair and the annual Herbs McGerbs party all in one day! Needless to say, April was a good month.
May:
I got to attend my first baseball game of the season and junior year came to a close. I took a trip up to Baltimore to see the incredible American Visionary Art Museum with a few people I'd be working with during my internship. It might be one of the most beautiful buildings I have ever seen. My older sister graduated and we coined the term "framily".
June:
In June one of my best friends had her 21st birthday and I got to experience the spectacle of Fairfax nightlife. I also had to give a presentation to the Arts Council of Fredericksburg which was terrifying but was ok because everyone said I did fine. I also got my wisdom teeth taken out! Pain. Here is a picture.
July:
After experiencing Fairfax nightlife I got to really experience DC nightlife! Wowy. I had probably one of the best nights of my life celebrating another friend's 21st birthday and galavanting around with my roommate. The absolute highlight of the month was my internship that took place over two weeks of the month. I ran an art camp for kids ages 8-12 and 13-17. They were the sweetest kids and so very creative. We got to street paint, construct origami, make art out of nature, and spray paint hand-made stencils. It was stressful but so very cool. At the end of the month my younger sister, dad, and I climbed a mountain as a day trip and saw some incredible views.
August:
During the month of August I mainly babysat and prepared for my last full year of college. Best part of the month: meeting Denard Span. I was the first one to talk to him and as I stood next to him to get a picture he asked if I was nervous and I just blurted out that I was hungover. True story. Worst part of the month: saying goodbye to a former roommate who was studying abroad.
September:
I studied a lot, watched a lot of baseball, and reunited with many friends. I saw The Lord of the Rings the Fellowship of the Ring at Wolf Trap with a live band and then later saw even more bands at Free Fest. My roommate and I waited two hours in the pouring rain to see my favorite band play from the pit. That was amazing. Finally, I got to attend my first ever Oktoberfest downtown! It was awesome. My friend from home came down to drink some beers with my roommate and college friends and we even got steins. I named mine Gertrude.
October:
While I got to attend my first Oktoberfest in September, I got to really attend a homecoming tailgate in October! My roommate and I got up early to make breakfast and then headed over to a friend's house for games and then to the tailgate for food and even more games. I can't wait to attend next year as a...gulp...alumni. Halloween was also awesome. I was Lana del Rey and Indiana Fogg. No one really could guess either.
November:
Schoolwork began to get really tough in November so I spent way less time having fun around the downtown area and a lot more fun in the library. I did manage to go to Richmond twice in November. The first time was to see my favorite live band Dr Dog at the National and the second time was to run an 8k with my family. I have now seen Dr Dog 4 times in concert for the 4 years I've been at college. I think that has become my favorite personal tradition.
December:
The finals were upon us and so was my 22nd birthday. Because it was finals I didn't do anything that crazy but I did have a really good night with friends from school. When I got back I went out with my sister and other home friends and had another good night. I have great friends in my life! Christmas came around and it was yet another lovely day filled with gifts, song, and a drunk grandpa.
That about brings us to the end of this eventful year. It was a crazy one and I predict 2014 will be even crazier. I hope all of my three viewers also had a great year!
Until 2014,
Caroline
