It's Opening Day!

Today was Opening Day which means it's the beginning of baseball season. Thank the lord. I have been really missing baseball. I missed watching a game with my dad in the basement, making jokes and cheering on the Nationals. The game today was so crazy. We ended up winning 9-7 but I missed us getting all of the runs! I watched until the 8th inning when the score was 5-4 Mets to go on a run with a friend but when I came back I found out we had majorly rallied and the score was now 9-5 us. I am kicking myself I didn't stay and watch but I did have a really good run. It was so nice out! It was great news to hear coming back.

To honor the beginning of baseball season here are some pictures from last season that I had on my phone:

Nats Park in all her beauty

My parents and my special friend...lookin' happy

It was a cold day in May so we brought a blanket with us

We met Denard Span!! He loved us and did much better after he talked to us

A giant Jayson Werth head...look at that beard

I tried to keep score a few times. This was a game against the Padres. Did we win? You tell me...

I'm going to a game this Friday so I am over-the-moon with happiness that I'll be back in Nats Park so soon. It is my favorite place on earth.

Also! My sister is making this really cool tumblr blog that is all about spending time at Nats Park this summer. Go check it out!!

Until next time,

Things I Have a Problem With #2

I'm sitting in the gallery right now, a little hungover, a little tired, and people have been coming in and out since I've gotten here. I have had some weird visitors before but this guy who came in earlier just might take the cake. He came in and immediately asked what things were on my desk pointing and asking, "What's that? What's that?" I told him and he just said, "oh..." kind of like he wasn't really listening to me. I'm not so sure, it was strange. Afterwards he asked if he could put his umbrella on the ground and I told him it was fine. He walked over to the wall where I thought he was going to set it down but all of a sudden he veers away from the wall and he walks over to one of the pieces in the middle of the room that was on a table. He then put his umbrella underneath the table. Afterwards he proceeded to pull out a plastic bag with a magnifying glass to look at everything. Then he touched one of the pieces. I told him to please not touch the art and he said to me, "It's a diary, it's ok." UH NO IT'S NOT. This segues nicely into the things I have a problem with: gallery edition.

1. People touching the art - I think this is common knowledge, maybe I'm just super aware because I've taken classes and stuff, that you do NOT touch the art unless there is a sign encouraging you to do so. This is always so annoying. There have been so many sculptures or things with cool texture and people will come in and just put their grubby hands all over it! No! What is worse is that it is almost always an adult. I think I've told one or maybe two kids to not touch anything. I've told way many more adults. Does this seem weird to anyone?? It is super weird to me.

2. People asking to come in - this is probably my biggest pet peeve. I will be sitting at the front desk, there will be people inside walking around, and people will stop by the entrance and say, "can we come in? Is it alright?" I just want to shake that person, whoever asked me that, and say "no you cannot come in, these people are actually works of art and I'm sitting here because I have nothing better to do."If there is a sign out front and I am sitting here with the doors open with the lights on then yes, the gallery is open for business and you can look at stuff.

3. People asking if they can buy theatre tickets in the gallery - I changed my mind. This is actually my biggest pet peeve. Why the heck would you buy anything from me, in this gallery, sitting behind a tiny desk when there is a box office literally 30-40 feet away from here. If someone is coming in from the front doors then the box office should be the very first thing you see. The gallery is not in-view when you first walk in. UGH DUMMIES. But really, I get so annoyed. Just makes no sense.

4. People who walk in and pretend to not see me - oh these people are real, and they sook. I have to say hello to every person who walks in and sometimes people will walk in and not listen to me and just b-line it to the first thing they see. UH HELLO. I'm here. You are rude. I am done.

5. The police - you thought I was done but nope there are more. It's kind of weird that I added the police to the list but if you were part of this operation you'd understand. I have to call the police before my shift so they can come open the gallery for me. It is a nice thing to do for us but man oh man do they love to take their sweet time. I usually get here around 10 minutes early so I can call them and they can get here and I'll have a few minutes before the gallery is officially open but alas, this does not happen so nicely. Sometimes I wait 20 minutes for these clowns. Yeah, I called the police clowns. Please don't arrest me. They can also get very snooty. If I am about 30 seconds away they will get mad that I'm not actually there. One time I was 30 seconds away from entering the building and because I am honest and stupid I told them I was about 30 seconds away and they made me call them back when I was actually there. Not necessary. No one was there so it wasn't like I was calling and then someone was already there so I was making it inconvenient for them. Ugh, I hate it.

6. One piece right now - this will be a quick one. There is a piece in the gallery right now that is a video that plays on a loop and it last about 15 minutes and at the end of the 15 minutes there is an audio that plays with the video for about a minute. This is the most annoying audio I have ever had to sit through for 3 hours. It is the worst.

So that's it. Well, there are other things but I have to go in a few minutes so I have to wrap this up. It's raining outside so it will be a wet walk home.

Thanks to anyone reading this and until next time,

Caroline

I am obsessed with Bastille

Last night I went out with my friends to our other friend's house and then to a bar downtown. I guess I haven't really wanted to go out for a while but something must have been in the air last night because I was all about it. Maybe it's because the weather is getting warmer. The cold was just so miserable and I wanted to get under all of the covers with all of my sweatshirts on at once and not come out. And, why did it last for so long?? It had to get to the end of March before it got warm again?? Is this turning into another things I have a problem with post? Nah, that will be for another time.

It was nice to go out because I met people I didn't really know before and I got to see people I haven't really seen in a while and I got to dance with this really tall redheaded boy, which was...weird. It makes for a good story. I'll write it out one day. I really like it when weird things happen while I'm out with friends. No bad things, only weird please.

I'm going out again with my Wednesday dinner friend tonight and I'm looking forward to it but I was just looking at Netflix and there are movies I really want to watch...Jiro Dreams of Sushi...I need to watch you...maybe I'll do that tomorrow. We'll see. Also, Mud is on there and I heard it's really good.

Welp, it's Friday. You know what that means.

Likes:
1. New Girl, Schmidt is the best
2. WARM WEATHER
3. Bastille

Dislikes:
1. Skipping class
2. Papers, the library, I am soooooooooooooooo over it
3. Carrying a heavy backpack everywhere

I'm really looking forward to next week. Exciting things happening!!!

I've spent the last two days in the library (pretty much)

Oh my goodness in a few hours I am going to be a very very happy girl. I've spent the past two days typing up a paper in the library. They have been the longest days of my life. I'm just happy I turned in my paper about an hour ago so I could get to this post. I've been pretty good about posting, eh? I figured it's Thursday so I have an outfit to share.

Today was a running day but the two girls I run with both weren't running so I decided to skip the run and finish typing my paper. That was a very good idea because if I ran instead I might still be working on my bibliography or something. It just wouldn't be done. So, good job, Caroline.

I wanted to post this picture for a few reasons. First, because it's what I wore today (duhh). Second, because in the days to come I won't have to wear this fleece sweater or a million layers for a long time. Praise. The. LAWD. I am so freaking sick of the cold weather. It's my last hoorah with the fleece and the cold. Third, was because I like my eyebrows today. They don't look that great in this picture but IRL they are looking awfully nice today.

My eyebrows are definitely something I like about myself. I was talking to my boyfriend about things we like about ourselves and I said my eyebrows, my collarbone (there is another word for this but I don't know how to spell it #lame), and my teeth. He said he liked his arms. That's about how far that conversation went. I think it's good to think about things that we like about ourselves. So many times I think "ugh, I hate my skin, I hate my hair, I hate blah blah blah," there are so many things I say I don't like. It's not healthy. From now on, I have to balance things I don't like with things I do like. Then I won't feel so bad about myself! Does this make sense to you? It sort of does to me!

I have to get ready to go to my night class. Think about things you like about yourself. It'll make you feel nice!

Until next time,

Caroline

It's Wednesday and I'm really busy

I have so much to do today. I probably won't be able to go to sleep tonight until really late. I'm whining!! But really, there is a lot of things to do. I'm going to be going back and forth between the library and other places all day. Here's what's happening.

First I had class this morning so I got up, got ready, ate breakfast (my favorite part of the day), and headed on over to class. I sat through class then I sat through my second class.

That brings me to about right now. I went to the library after class for a little bit and read then went to the gallery. My supervisor is out for the week so the gallery is essentially run by the interns and the monitors this week. That means I had to send out about a million emails last week. I'm sure everyone really appreciated getting those.

After this I have an hour to kill until I go to my weekly Wednesday lunch with one of my friends. It's seriously one of the best parts of my week. We pretty much laugh the whole time. She is also a good listener and a good story teller so she is kinda the whole package. Now I just sound like an advertisement.

At around 6 my friend has work and then I'm back to the library. I have a paper to write so I'm going to be there for a long time. I've been really bad about putting this paper off so I'm sort of kicking myself over this. I was working on it for a little bit yesterday but that was cut short because I went to a lecture on festivals of drunkenness in New Kingdom Egypt. It was really interesting. I also got credit in my Roman class for going. Ka-chinnggggg. Is that how that's spelled? I never know. I'm not that worried about this paper because it isn't very long and I like the subject I picked I just wish I started this earlier. Same problem, different paper. Ugh, me.

That's all that's going on with me today. I have another hour in the gallery so I'll just read White Teeth by Zadie Smith until I have to go onto the next location.

I hope everyone has a good, productive day, and until next time,

Caroline

I have a crush on every boy

Ok, who knows where the title is from?? If you guessed Teen Girl Squad you are right. If you have no idea what Teen Girl Squad is, don't worry about it. I am weird.

I was going to write something about boys and relationships but I have no time to write anything but my Asian art paper that's due Thursday. I guess this post will have to wait. SORRY!

Until next time,

Caroline

What I want to do when I grow up

As graduation looms ever closer each day I still have no idea what I want to do when I get older. I guess this is sort of funny to say because I am an adult now but what I mean is that I don't really know which career I want to pursue. I don't know which I want to pursue because there are lots! I want to do lots of things! Would I be good at all the things I want to do? Uh well I guess I'll never know if I don't try! My good friend Michael Scott once said that Wayne Gretzky once said, "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take." So very true, Michael, so very true.

So here is the list of careers that seem like they'd be a good fit for me. Would all of these jobs likely hire an art history major with experience in working in a gallery? Well, most likely not all...

1. Sports Journalist
2. Fashion writer
3. Buyer for a major department store
4. Nat Pack girl (lol)
5. Gallery curator/museum curator
6. Stylist (for anything)
7. Makeup artist
8. Commentator for the Nats
9. Commentator for any other sports team
10. Art buyer
11. Own a business that installs and untinstalls art pieces (that would be so cool)
12. Professional blogger (awwwwww yeah)
13. Art restorator
14. New Zealand tour guide of all the LOTR shooting locations
14. Hotel heiress
15. Fashion model
16. Manhattan socialite

So as you can tell I got a little unrealistic at the end but you never know...one day I could become a hotel heiress and then I could hang out with Paris Hilton or someone like that. Anything is possible!

Until next time,

Caroline
