taste is relative

The other day I got kind of upset because my roommate didn't want to watch a show I suggested to her to watch (this isn't the roommate pictured below). I was a little offended because I think I have good taste in television and it seemed like she didn't want to listen to my suggestion so instead she just decided to watch something else that I thought wasn't as good. I didn't say I thought it wasn't as good because that would have been snobby (I got a little snobby later, just wait for it) but I was definitely thinking it.

I talked to my mom about it later and she said to me that "taste is relative". She told me that sometimes people want to try new things and sometimes they aren't in the mood. After she said that I felt bad for thinking what she wanted to watch wasn't good enough. I have a problem where if something doesn't look good to me I will just think it's bad and if I like something then I just assume that it is fact that whatever it is is really good.

Well, this is where things get snobby on my end. Yesterday the same roommate asked if we wanted to see "That Awkward Moment" sometime soon and it turned out my other roommate already went to see it while the first roommate was gone (are you confused yet?). She was a little offended that they didn't wait for her to get back because she was talking about it earlier. She then looked at me because I hadn't seen it yet. I said to her I didn't want to see it because it got 23% on Rotten Tomatoes (actually 22%). They both thought it was dumb that I didn't want to see it because critics thought it wasn't good. Ok, ok, let me just say in my defense the trailer didn't make the movie look that good to me. I like Zac Efron but I don't like him $12 worth to see him in a sappy (and probably pretty dumb) "bro-mantic" comedy. My roommate who saw it said that she liked it and that it was worth seeing so that should be enough reason for me to go see it. I don't agree with her but I didn't say anything. There are somethings that we have very similar taste in and there are lots of things we don't have similar taste in.

That's just it, taste is relative. It is different from person to person. My roommate loves country music while I can only tolerate a small bit of it. I like to run (eh) and she doesn't ever ever ever want to run for the sake of running. We both like Brooklyn 99, Hawaiian pizza, and Lana del Rey. Everyone's taste is relative. There is not really a reason to say that something I like is better or more interesting than something she likes and vice versa. My mom is a very wise woman, I should always remember that. So she liked the movie and in the end I probably won't ever see it. No one is at fault! Also, I am broke, remember??

I hope everyone keeps that in mind and has a good day!

Until tomorrow,

Caroline
