I'm at home!

We made it back yesterday from our trip to Charleston (in record time too, 6 and a half hours! Wow!!) and breathed in that wonderful Virginia air. It was a long trip and I am very happy to be home. I did love Charleston though. What an enchanting city! The romantic houses with the wrap around porches were quite numerous and so unbelievably beautiful. The people were so nice. The food was AMAZING. I don't think I've ever eaten so much good food in my life. I was in a constant food coma the whole time (in a good way). If I had unlimited amounts of money I would live in Charleston and go out to eat every night. I'm going to go over everything about the trip but I'll do it in three posts. The first will be about the food, I know you're curious now, the second will be just a day-to-day summary, and the third will be a bunch of pictures I took throughout the trip. Oooh, it's gonna be good.

Here. We. Go!

Day 1:
Dinner - We arrived in the evening and were starving so we headed on over the Hominy Grill. It was such a cute restaurant, so rustic and very close. Here I ordered a beer (I don't remember what it was called) and a curry chicken salad sandwich with fries. Never have I loved a chicken salad sandwich as much as I loved that one. Two thumbs way up!

Day 2:
Breakfast - Breakfast was eaten at the hostel. I had an English muffin and a normal muffin. Both were good.

Lunch/Dinner - Next we had a late lunch/early dinner at a restaurant downtown called Magnolias. This was such a nice restaurant. Really good cocktails too. I ordered the East Bay Mojito (my very first mojito. It was the best alcoholic drink I've ever had. Close second: grape Four Loko) as a drink and we all split fried green tomatoes as a starter. It was served with pieces of ham in between so two of us couldn't eat them (one, vegan, the other, Muslim) so I ended up having two pieces. What an incredible combination. For my main course I had a crab cake sandwich. Very solid, I enjoyed it very much.

Dessert - We went to a place called Belgian Gelato and I ordered a cup of cappuccino gelato. I haven't had ice cream or gelato or anything in such a long time. I wanted more immediately. I also had some of my friend's peanut butter gelato. Also very good.

Day 3:
Breakfast - We wanted to venture out for breakfast so we looked on Yelp and found Wildflower Bakery which was right down the road from our hostel. We got ready and walked over. While we were there we "oohed" and "ahhed" at the giant cinnamon buns they make for their Cinnamon Buns Sundays. People are literally lined out the door for these bad boys. Unfortunately no one ordered one but I did order iced coffee and a coffee cake muffin. I was pleased.

Early(ish) Dinner - We went downtown closer to the water for dinner. We ended up at a restaurant called Amen Street only a block from the water. I got the fried oyster po' boy. It was good but I felt like they were skimping on the oysters. I enjoyed the meal but it was no means anywhere close to the best of the trip.

Day 4:
Breakfast - I ate breakfast in the hostel again. I had a bagel with jam and a Sriracha croissant. It was SO GOOD! Where can I find more?? I also had some coffee. It was nice.

Was there lunch?? I don't remember.

Dinner - Get ready. We went to a place that was right across the street from the Hominy Grill called Fuel. This place was amazing. It is a little diner where Diners Drive-Ins and Dives actually stopped by! We ordered drinks, I got a dark and stormy along with Ho Cakes (Guy helped make these on the show) and an order of salsa. Everything was amazing. For the main course I ordered Mahi Mahi tacos. They came with a slaw on top and sweet potato fries and it was the best meal of my whole life. I would eat that everyday if I could. So freaking delicious. Also, our waiter was so cute. Big Willie, if you ever find this, I love you.

Day 5:
Breakfast - We decided to go back to Wildflower because we enjoyed it so much the first time. This time it was a little later in the day so we had lunch there. I got a spinach and feta quiche, a cappuccino, and a donut muffin. All very good.

Dinner - We wanted a sort of nice dinner so we went to a place called CO Banh Mi on King Street. It was a Vietnamese place that was also probably a little Asian fusion. I ordered the Com Chien which is pretty much just glorified fried rice but by golly it was the most delicious brown rice I have ever eaten. I decided to go a little out of my comfort zone and order tofu with the rice instead of chicken or shrimp. I was pleased. My friend didn't finish her pho and didn't want any more so I then took over of that plate. I almost finished it. Our waiter laughed at how much food I ate. Story of my life.

We went home the next morning. Goodbye Charleston. Goodbye amazing food every night. In a few days it will be back to my own amazing cooking every night.

Look out tomorrow for another Charleston post. Also I'll have my outfit for my normal Thursday posts and my likes and dislikes of the week.

Until tomorrow,

Caroline
